Ballarat can be described as a city located in ‘Victoria, Australia’.
Ballarat is the biggest inland city in Victoria. It’s reputable for its heritage and history.
Ballarat lies at a distance of around 105 Km on the north-western side of Melbourne. It also lies at around 71 feet AHD. The area on the whole is around 740 sq. Km; with city having occupied the built-up area of around 75 sq. Km.
In the year 1851, gold was recovered. Furthermore, an influx of around 10000 miners; that too, in < a year went on to have it transformed from pastoral town in to the biggest settlement of Victoria. ‘Victorian Gold Rush’ took place for around 10 years, i.e. from 1850 to 1860 as gold could easily get extracted from surface. The importance of Ballarat, however, reduced after 1880s; thanks to overshadowing by Melbourne. In spite of all this, nothing could stop Ballarat from becoming a hot-favorite tourist destination.

Overall Guide : Ballarat Botanical GardensBallarat Botanical Garden Reserve covers a region of around 40 hectares; which gets divided in to three distinct zones. On the sides, there seem to be ‘open parkland buffers’ called South and North Gardens. In the year 2007,... more this garden added a feather in its cap by celebrating its sesquicentenary.Ex-Prisoner of War MemorialThis war memorial was dedicated on the 6th of February, 2004 (Friday). It’s situated on Southern approaches towards Ballarat Botanical Gardens; and adjoins Lake Wendouree. Off late, it has obtained status of being the ‘official National Prisoner of War Memorial’, thereby honoring around 35000 Australians who had been held prisoners at the time of Korean War, Second World War, First World War, and Boer War. An Australian can think of this place as that of national honor, healing, and remembrance.
