Info about Darwin

Overview

Darwin is the capital of Australia’s northernmost state, Northern Territory. This coastal city was named after famed British naturalist Charles Darwin and is located on a peninsula, surrounded by open water on three sides. It is known for its rugged, relaxed outdoor lifestyle and is home to approximately 115,000 residents.
Darwin enjoys warm weather all year round and experiences a Tropical Summer from October to March. During this time, the city experiences balmy weather combined with predictable daily showers, which rejuvenate the landscape and provide much-needed succour to the parched land. This period is considered by many visitors as the most beautiful time of year.
Darwin is incredibly culturally diverse and is home to people of more than 50 nationalities, including the indigenous Arrakia Aboriginal people.

Overall Guide : Darwin hosts several open-air markets at Parap, Nightcliff and Mindil Beach, selling everything from local handicrafts to fresh produce. During the Tropical Summer, a large portion of the day is spent outside—whether dining, shopping or movie watching. The city has... more a compact Central Business District—which can be explored on foot or by bicycle or tour bus—and a vibrant nightlife, with several pubs, nightclubs and restaurants that serve local favourites like mud crabs, barramundi, buffalo, kangaroo and crocodile. Darwin’s coastal location also makes it a world-class fishing destination; its waters are home to barramundi and several other kinds of other tropical fish. The city is also host to several must-visit natural parks, such as the Botanic Gardens, East Point Reserve and Casuarina Coastal Reserve. Darwinplays host to an eponymous festival in August each year at several venues around the city.
