Huntsville is located in the region of Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.  Captain George Hunt settled and founded the area in 1869. The area was named after Captain Hunt in 1870 and a post office was built here. In 1877 a water route to Huntsville from Port Sydney was also built. In 1885, Northern and Pacific Junction Railway built a railway route which helped in the development of the city and 1886 the city was incorporated officially.
In 2006 the population of Huntsville was 18,280. In the later years of 19th century it gained importance as a prime industrial area. The area had many tanneries, saw, and shingles mills.  It is a major tourist destination today due to its natural surroundings. G8 meeting will be held in the city in 2010 which will be chaired by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
The area of Huntsville has severe humid continental type of climate. It experiences warm to hot summers and cold, long winters.
