Grasse in Nice
Grasse is a small village in the Cote d'Azur, located at about 400 meters above sea level. Many essences, from which the most famous perfumes in the world are made, are cultivated in this area. Grasse is located on the old Route Napoleon and has the structure of a medieval village. The houses of perfumes offer the possibility to create customized perfumes, experience the process of preparation of a perfume, and visit perfume collections. The main Maisons of perfumes are: Molinard, Gallimard, and Fragonard. Grasse has been an important economic center for its leather tanneries since Medieval ages and it has become an even more notorious center in all Europe because of its aromatic plant crops and scented gloves. The scented gloves were an invention of Caterina de' Medici that in the years has turned Grasse into an industrialized center specialized in the production of soaps, perfumes, fragrances, and cosmetics. Patrick Suskind talks about this place in his book “The Perfume” so for the people who have read and loved the book, Grasse is definitely a place to visit.
