Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne
Information about Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne: opening hours, how to get there, contact details
A short walk from Rathausplatz, the museum houses a splendid collection of paintings from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century. Inaugurated in 2001, right in the heart of the old town of Cologne, it's a huge post-modern cube with clean lines designed by Oswald Mathias Ungers. It’s the perfect home for works from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. It’s very easy to get to: it’s barely five minutes’ walk from the train station, just take the footpath that runs along the Rhine.
Some of the artists displayed are Rubens, Rembrandt, Canaletto, Murillo, Leonardo, Rodin, Dürer and Cranach the Old. We mustn’t forget to thank Mr. Corboud, the Swiss collector who has left the impressionist paintings on permanent loan to the gallery (Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, Bonnard ... and even Van Gogh).
