Imphal, the capital city of the Indian state of Manipur is the hub of all cultural, political and commercial activities of the state.
The Imphal Valley has several lakes and rivers that have their origin in the surrounding hills. The main rivers are the river Imphal, river Nambul and their tributaries.
The Imphal Valley used to be full of swamps and marshy lands but now has fertile alluvial, shallow black and brown soils.
The city experiences a healthy climate with evergreen scenic beauty throughout the year. Summers are humid because of the rainfall whereas winters are cool.
Imphal houses 217,275 people, most of these being the natives of Manipur.
The state has its own art forms of dance and music. It has rich cultural heritage famous worldwide. The classical dance reveals the love of Hindu Lord Krishna and his ‘Gopi’ Radha and is called Rasa Lila.
