The Kashmir Valley stretches from the north-east to the south-west for approximately 84 miles and is about 20 to 25 miles in breadth.
It is at a height of 5000 feet above the sea level. There are low lying valleys like the Sind, Poonch, Chenab and Tawi that are encircled by mountain ranges.
The climate of Kashmir Valley is much cooler than Jammu.
The daily temperatures in May and June are 20 degrees Celsius while in July and August this valley is slightly humid and still. The tourist season in Kashmir ceases in October when the temperature drops to less than 10 degrees Celsius.
The lifestyle of Kashmir is slow paced and encompasses religious diversity.
The men of the Wattal region perform a popular dance called as Dumhal while the women are associated with a folk dance called as the Rouff.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Kashmir Valley was 4 million.

Overall Guide : We decided to go to Kashmir during the summer vacation. I went there with my parents. We left for Jammu by train. We reached Jammu the following morning. We stayed in Jammu for one day. Then we went to Srinagar... more by bus. We saw Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Garden. There were very beautiful flowers and fruit trees in the garden. I enjoyed the beauty of Nature. We hired a 'Shikara' in Dal Lake. We also went to see Gulmarg. It is very famous for its beauty. Then we went to Pahalgam. It is also a very beautiful place. Kashmir is famous for its handicrafts. We bought some wooden toys, sarees and shawls. We stayed in Kashmir for ten days. Then we returned to Delhi. The sweet memory of the Kashmir Valley is still fresh in my mind.

Overall Guide : The most famous of Kashmir’s Mughal gardens and undoubtedly the finest. It was built by Emperor Jahangir in 1619 AD. It is connected to Lake Dal by a canal which is about a mile long and 12 yards in width.... more Its layout probably influenced the later design of the garden at the Taj Mahal. The garden is divided into four terraces and there is a line of ponds or reservoirs running down the centre of the garden. The water flows down each terrace in stone chutes carved in many patterns of shell and fish. A pavilion, used as a banqueting hall by the Royal family, was placed in the middle of a shallow lake - 52 yards square, three and a half feet deep and containing 140 large fountains.
