The Diocesan Museum is placed in the city centre of Catania, in Piazza Duomo, along Via Etna, which represents the main arterial road of the Sicilian city.
The museum is considered the Cathedral Museum because it keeps the Cathedral historical furniture: traces and documents that allow to reconstruct the historic, political and religious sequences of the territory.
The museum is divided in two sections: the halls on the second floors host the liturgical furniture of Catania Cathedral, whereas on the third and fourth floors there are the furniture and relics coming from other churches of the city and of the entire diocese.
In Piazza San Francesco d'Assisi 3, in the composer Vincenzo Bellini birth house, today there is a museum entirely dedicated to the artist. The Museo Belliniano displays old documents, a rich iconographical collection, works scores and many memories of the... more famous composer. In the same building also the museo Emilio Greco is hosted. Here you can admire the exhibition of etchings and lithographs made by the master from Catania.
