Always been the political and civic center of Florence. It acquired it's present appearance after the construction of the Palazzo degli Uffizi, which is attached together at the Palazzo Vecchio. Walking through the square you can encounter the monument in honor of Cosimo I and the Fountain of Neptune. It is considered one of the (many) living rooms in Florence.
