Theater Bellevue in Amsterdam
Located in East Amsterdam on Leidsekade, right near the canal, Theater Bellevue serves as a central hub for performers from all over the Netherlands. The theater also acts as an organizational location during many of Amsterdam’s celebrations, including the always-anticipated city Fringe Festival in September.
Theater Bellevue has three separate performing areas, the Grote Zaal (Big Hall), the Kleine Zaal (Small Hall), and the café De Smoeshaan. As you might guess, the size of the act determines the room in which performers can be seen. The venue is known for hosting shows that include modern theater, music, dance, comedy, and cabaret. As this theater reflects the character of the region, most of its performances are delivered in Dutch.
A great way to get out and see Amsterdam’s diverse performance culture, Theater Bellevue won’t disappoint, as it is known by the locals as one of the best places for shows and concerts. The performances are reasonably priced, as tickets usually sell for about €13 a piece. Café De Smoeshaan is also a great place to go for drinks and/or French and Italian food throughout the day. It’s also a great spot to sip coffee with your friends before or after a show!
