Fiji Health and Safety

HeaderPageTitle-GetPartialViewNoCache = 0

Fiji has no specific vaccination requirements. However, a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if one is arriving to Fiji within ten days of having stayed overnight or longer in an infected area. Also, there is high risk of water borne diseases such as leptospirosis, diarrhoea, dysentery and typhoid. Hence, consume bottled drinking water only. Mosquito borne diseases such as malaria are rampant in the region, especially during the months of November and April. Tourists can avoid such diseases by wearing long clothes and using insect repellents at all times.

Fiji is known to be unstable politically. The recent military take over in Suva is the fourth such coup in the last twenty years. Visitors are hence advised to remain cautious and avoid any public demonstrations or processions.

Like in any other country, pickpockets are common in the big cities; in crowded places, therefore, tourists should be careful of their belongings.
