Tavira, a town with a history that dates back to 2000 BC, is located in the eastern Algarve region on Portugal’s south coast. The town lies on both sides of the Gilao River, both of which are connected by a charming seven-arch bridge. The Segua River also flows nearby.
The international airport at Faro is just 30 km away from the town.
Tavira, like the remaining regions of Algarve, has pleasant weather all-year round with hot, sunny summers (28°C–30°C) and mild, breezy winters (15°C). January is the coolest month and the best time to visit; July and August can be extremely hot.
Around 25,000 residents inhabit the town of Tavira. Previously home to a thriving tuna fishing industry, the town now mainly plays host to a military base, although tourism is now being massively promoted.

Reviews Tavira

Maureen H
Overall rating 9
Overall Guide : Charming town with lots to see around the cobbled streets - feels Boho chic, suits couples and older generation , children would be bored. hire car preferable to get to beaches. Wonderful food and very atmospheric in peak months. Out... more of season very quiet and laid back. Lots of local festivals , fab food, cheap wine, good base to explore inland or along the coast and can easily travel to Spain for Tapas lunch by bus and then short ferry ride. We love it.
Not to be missed Ilha Beach , Camera Obscura , Praca de republic
