Although it is not very well known outside of Spain, the number of international tourists coming here has been steadily increasing over the years. Santander has... more eight beautiful beaches where visitors can indulge in a variety of water sports or simply laze around in the sun. One can even learn how to sail or choose to explore this wonderful city on foot. The Plaza de Cañadío has many bars and restaurants and features a very lively nightlife that involves much drinking and music. There is even a Casino near the Sardinero beach where visitors can try their luck at games like roulette and blackjack. The Magdalena Palace housed the royal family went they visited Santander in the summers and attracts many visitors. Visitors can view fine examples of the pre-historic rock art of Cantabria in the various caves near the city.
