The historic Austrian town of Bregenz is situated on the shores of the Austrian Bodensee ( Lake Constance) in the extreme north-west of the country close to the corner where the borders of the four countries of Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein meet. Its roots can be traced to Roman times as the military fort and base of trade known as Brigantinum.

Today, Bregenz is home to around 27,000 people. Due to its location in the Alps and on the Bodensee, it has both summer and winter tourism, with around 230,000 people from all around the world visiting the town to enjoy water sports on the lake and walking in beautiful Alpine scenery and, of course, skiing in nearby resorts during winter months.
Apart from tourism the local economy consists of small businesses, mainly in the textile industry.
