Gatineau can be referred to as a city located in Quebec’s western part, Canada.
Gatineau stands on Ottawa River’s northern bank; immediately across Ottawa, Ontario. Moreover, it lies inside ‘National Capital region’ of Canada. Gatineau and Ottawa constitute a single ‘Census Metropolitan Area’. It must be noted that Gatineau is co-extensive with TE, i.e. territory equivalent to a regional county municipality, and CD, i.e. census division bearing identical name. ‘81’ is the geographical code.
Loads of provincial and federal offices have been located over here; owing to proximity on its part to national capital. The other reason is its status of being a major town of ‘Outaouais region’ of Quebec’.
Federal government’s policy of distributing federal jobs with regards to Ottawa River’s banks led to building up of numerous massive ‘office towers’ for housing federal ‘civil servants’ in ‘downtown Gatineau’. ‘Terrasses de la Chaudiere’ and ‘Place du Portage’ are the biggest amongst these.
