Lhasa is located at the north bank of the Kyichu River, a tributary of the Yarlong Tsangpo River, at an altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level: it is the highest city in the world!
Lhasa is the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region and the centre of Tibet's political, economic, cultural and religious activities since 1.300 years ago!
Its name-- "Lhasa"--means "the land of gods" in Tibetan and, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, it is also known as " the City of Sunshine".
Lhasa has many Buddhist monuments and was the seat of the Dalai Lama.
The city can be ideally divided into two distinguished parts: the outskirts, crowded with sprawling modern concrete buildings, and the core of the old town which remains practically untouched by modernity.
Thousands of tourists, from every corner of the world, come every year to visit and explore this vibrant city and its fascinating culture.

Overall Guide : There are many historic sites and famous relics in Lhasa proper and its suburbs. The Potala Palace is the most famous site in the city. At once citadel, temple, palace and monastery, the Potala is as rich and complex... more as the Buddhist faith which inspired it. Inside the 13-storey central "Red Palace" are great assembly halls and dozens of richly decorated chapels, including the gold-encrusted reliquary stupas of seven previous Dalai Lamas: it is a real must if you happen to visit Lhasa. Other wonderful and well known attractions include the Barkhor Street, the oldest road in the city used by the pilgrims during the centuries, the Jokhang Temple, the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Monastery and the Ganden Monastery. But one thing is sure: you will surely discover and admire much more visiting this mysterious and incredible city.

Overall Guide : One of the most mystical and fascinating cities in the world, the people are wonderful and you can immerse yourself in a wonderful culture. It feels as though no time has passed there, Tibetans are a friendly people, the temples... more and monuments left after the Chinese invasion are spectacular. You will be out of breath, and not just because of the altitude.
