Chinon, located deep in the heart of the Loire area of France, is a picturesque town situation on the banks of the Vienne River.
Founded in the Middle Ages by the British king Henry the second, Chinon was an important location as the court of the Angevin Empire was held within the city walls still visible today.
Today Chinon is known for its beautiful historic city centre as well as its many 'caves' or wine cellars and green rural surroundings.
It is an ideal location from which to explore the lush Loire Valley countryside surrounding the area to escape the rush of city life. However, if you are underway by car or bicycle Chinon makes a great base for visits to Angers, Tours and even Le Mans.
