The City of Rhodes lies on the Greek island of Rhodes in the south-eastern Aegean, close to the coast of Turkey. The city of Rhodes is one of the biggest municipalities of all the Greek islands with a population of 60,000.
It is the cultural and financial centre of the area and mixes a rich historical past with a lively present .
The medieval aspects, fortified behind impressive walls, merge perfectly with the cosmopolitan air of a modern resort with hotels, broad streets, elegant stores and most developed tourist infrastructures in Greece.

The early Byzantine city was extended and fortified by the Knights of Saint John in ... Leggi tutto the 14th and 15th centuries creating the medieval city we see today. Eleven Gates lead to the interior where the knights lived and where the most important Knights Houses can still be seen. The Grand Master’s Palace (14th century) was the headquarters of the leader of the Knights of Saint John. Today the Palace is a museum, and its many rooms contain important archaeological finds from ancient and medieval Rhodes. Walking the cobbled streets of the Old Town visitors can also admire the moat and walls with their ramparts, the Byzantine churches, the mosques, the squares, and the gardens of the houses. In the new City of Rhodes is the picturesque yacht harbour of Mandraki with the lighthouse tower of St. Nicholas and the three old windmills.

Overall Guide : Visited Pefki in May 2012 for one week, was a lovely holiday for that time of year, not too hot. Hired a car for 3 days and toured around. Found some lovely restaurants, sea food quite expensive but can eat ... Leggi tutto cheaper depending on your taste. People very friendly and helpful. Visited Prasonisi, Lindos and Rhodes town. Also took a boat trip to Symi, very nice place but the boat was packed out and some people had to stand or sit on the floor, not ideal for the 1 hour 40 minute journey.

Pefkos where we stay is a wonderful a sandy beach, fantastic tavernas, and a wonderful array of ...
