A small, calm town located on Arabian Sea’s narrow strip, that too, at Mumbai’s southern tip, Alibaug is full of giant-sized coconut trees as well as ‘golden’ sandy beaches that are lapped by ocean. Besides quaint rural houses, this place contains farm houses belonging to affluent folks of Mumbai.
Almost 3 centuries old, the place called ‘Alibaug’ was discovered in the seventeenth century by Kanhoji Angre, naval chief pertaining to Shivaji’s Kingdom. In the year 1852, Alibaug was converted in to a Taluka by Marathas and named as ‘Shribag’. As this place wasn’t linked by road to mainland then, the sole way of getting there was via sea; that too, from Mankule, Dharmtar, or Revas.
Construction of Dharamtar Creek, however, made ways for public, thereby having connected it to the metropolitan cities such a Mumbai. As Alibaug proves to be a week-end getaway, Mumbaiites frequent it for enjoying beauty of sea. Hence, as such, there is no specific period to visit Alibaug.
