Darjeeling is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It translates into ‘the land of the thunderbolt’. Popularly known as the ‘Queen of the Hills’, the city is home to a population of more than 100,000 inhabitants. It is famous for its Darjeeling Tea and also the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
Darjeeling is blessed with a temperate climate with extremely mild summers and chilling winters. Snowfall is rare but mist and fog blanket the city regularly. High rainfall is also a common event.
Darjeeling was the favoured hill-station of the British during the British Raj. It was merged with West Bengal after the independence of India. Today, the most important components of Darjeeling’s economy are tourism and the tea industry, with the latter being the largest employer in the hills.

Overall Guide : Darjeeling is internationally applauded as one of the finest hill stations in the world. The Ghoom Monastery, Bhutia Busty Monastery and Mag-Dhog Yolmowa Monastery are some of the significant places where ancient Buddhist writings are conserved. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway... more is the first instance of a hill passenger railway. It is one of the only two railways to feature on the list of the World Heritage Sites. Visitors have a regaling time aboard the train as it offers a scenic view of the surroundings. The Natural History Museum hosts a broad collection of the specimens of birds’ species, reptiles and animals found in the Eastern Himalayas. The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park qualifies as the only zoo in the world to breed the Tibetan Wolf. It also breeds Snow Leopards and Red Pandas and is appreciated for its uniqueness which has garnered international acclaim.

Overall Guide : Darjeeling has stood firm so far in its past glory. I believe its high time that Darjeeling revamps itself and comes up with major plans to upgrade its over all setting to come to the standards that are developing everywhere... more in terms of roads, cleanliness, shopping areas, crowd dispersion, parks, transportation, awareness as to respect towards traffic rules, public places, social obligations to keeping the place pristine in its setting and more.
Not to be missed tiger hill , Visit the zoo and HMI
