Jalandhar formerly called as Jullundhar is situated on the irrigated plain between the Sutlej and Beas rivers in the Punjab State.
It is regarded as the oldest city in the state that has transformed to a highly industrialized center producing world class sports equipments as well as some of the best sportsmen in the nation.
Towards the east is the Ludhiana district, towards the north is the Hosiharpur district, towards the west is Kapurthala and towards the south is the Ferozepur district.
The climate of this city is predominantly dry with the exception of the short south-west monsoon season from July to early September during which the average yearly rainfall is 703 millimeters.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Jalandhar was 0.7 million.

On the side of this temple there is an old temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. It has been a custom for past 125 years, to hold the ‘Hariballabh Sangeet Sammelan’ at this temple as per which both vocal and instrumental popular classical music exponents perform here. At this temple, there is a huge masonry tank which is 200 years old and considered sacred by the Hindus. Imam Nasir Mausoleum and Jamma Masjid In the heart of Jalandhar, there is a beautiful mausoleum of Imam Nasir that is 800 years old. It is said that the Jamma Masjid is about 400 years old.
