Kumily can be referred to as a town located in ‘Cardamom Hills’ adjoining ‘Periyar Tiger Reserve’ and ‘Thekkadi’, within Kerala State’s Idukki District (South India). It’s an important trading center for spices as well as a beautiful tourist destination. As such, Kumily is popularly known as ‘The Spice Town of India’.

At present, ‘Gram Panchayat’, i.e. local self-government body of Kumily is presided over by Mr. M.S. Vasu. He holds the credit of having received a prestigious honor, i.e. ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’, instituted by Indian Government. Indian President has also awarded him for being the backbone of hygiene and sanitation of Kumily.

This town has tropical climate. The winds blowing from south-west cause heavy rainfall to take place in this region. As such, the best period to visit Kumily is between- November and February.

Overall Guide : Kumily is a great place to visit. It's was safe but the roads weren't very good at all during monsoon season. There are a lot of little shops to explore, plenty of places to eat, and it's easy to get... more an auto rickshaw. There is a small park, several elephant adventure options, and it is super close to the Thekkady Nature Preserve. Not a lot of locals speak English so stick to the touist areas or practice your Malayalam.
