Ooty is a colloquial name for Udhagamandalam or Ootacamund to a place in Tamil Nadu that has been called as the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’ by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru the first Prime Minister of India.
Ooty has an altitude of about 7440 feet and is spread over an area of 36 square kilometers. In Ooty one can find the Dodabetta peak which is the highest point in South India.
The summer season lasts from April to June with the 40 degrees Celsius mark being reached often while the winter season starts from November with an average temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius.
There is no major wet season between summer and winter and most of the rainfall occurs between October and December due to the North-East monsoon. As per the census of 2001, the population of Ooty was 93921.

Ooty Botanical Garden The Ooty Botanical Garden is spread over an area of 22 hectares and houses 650 varied species of plants of which some are of Italian and Japanese origin while others are indigenous and include rare flowering plants and roses. The highlight of this garden is a fossilized tree trunk that is considered to be more than 20 million years old. Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park are located where the Eastern ghats meet the Western Ghats and here several native species roam freely of which some are easy to spot while others require some patience.

Overall Guide : Nice, absolutely scenic place with narrow winding roads. Vistas of tea gardens, waterfalls, greenery, lakes and heritage Nilgiri Mountain Train. To be on safer side, will need own transport or at least hire one.
