Flores, spread over an area of 14,300 square Kms., is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It is bounded by Sulawesi to the north (beyond the Flores Sea), Sumba to the south (across the Sumba strait), Komodo and Sumbawa to the west and the Alor Archipelago and Lembata to the east. Flores is towards the north-west of Timor.

As per the 2003 census, the population of Flores was 1.6 million. In the 16th century, traders and missionaries from Portugal arrived in Flores and their influence can still be experienced in the culture and language. Although, there are several languages spoken in this place, all of these belong to the Austronesian family.

This place has a dry and wet season that alternate each year. Generally, the wet season is from November to March and the dry season from April to October. However, the transition periods between these seasons may shift.

Overall Guide : The most beautiful island of Indonesia - and I know quite a lot of them: impressive landscape volcanoes, lakes, tallest bamboo I know, interesting villages; mediocre food, low class accomodation.
Not to be missed Komodo & Co , Volcanoes , Bajawa & trek to Wawomuda
