Jakarta is warm and often wet city. The dry season is from May to September, and while buckets of torrential rain are still possible, it's more likely that you'll stay pretty dry.
Independence Day on 17 August is celebrated with great gusto in Jakarta. The Jakarta Fair occurs around 22 June and lasts three weeks. Other celebrations, such as the Jalan Jaksa Street Fair in August and the Jakarta International Cultural Performance in May are colourful, vibrant events.
Jakarta has changed into an Asian boom town in not much more than a decade. Reduced by the 1998 riots to a burnt-out shell, it remains very much at the centre of political events re-shaping Indonesia.
At first glance, this hot, smoggy city feels like nothing more than a waiting lounge for the millions queuing up to make their fortune, is a city of surprises. In other words it is a Pandora's box, filled with all the good and bad of Indonesian life!

Overall Guide : I lived in Jakarta for almost half of my life. For me Jakarta is a city that always makes nostalgic, even the bad things that exist in this city. For tourists who first visited Jakarta, my advices are: 1. Prepare ... Leggi tutto yourself for the weather: hot, dirty, dusty and humid. Wear sunglasses, lightweight clothing and cover your nose and mouth, also an umbrella / hat. 2. Prepare events or places that you want to visit carefully. Calculate the time to go and to get there. Because of congestion will whack you in all areas during the hours going to and from the office. There will be a traffic jam 2 to 5 hours. Because of the jam, prepare mineral water and snacks in your bag. 3. Public transportation is a bit worse and always crowded of passengers, try to have a local friend who accompanied you to travel. Or if it should be yourself, try not to carry valuables and money that much. 4. There is no safe place in this world. This motto applies to Jakarta. You must be vigilant in every place and people, they are friendly and happy to help foreigners, but also like to do a nosy and other unpleasant actions, 5. Beware of pickpockets wherever you are, even in places that are fairly representative. 6. Try to learn a few words of Indonesian or Jakarta's slang words to assist communication with local people. In general, they understand English, but lazy to speak in a foreign language.Especially you are in good restaurant, hotel, school or other representative places you might talk to some people who understand you easily.
