Grosseto in Tuscany is one of the few places in Italy that contains abundant remains from the Bronze Age. It is totally surrounded by its almost integral ancient medicean walls. The walls have bore the ravages of time well and have been well preserved till now .The city lies approximately 12 km from the sea, in the middle of an earthly plain, on the Ombrone River. It is an archaeological city known for its history, art and food. Grosseto is the principal town and market of Tuscan Maremma .It is basically based on agriculture. It stretches 25 km of the magical Tuscan coast comprising a chain of hills towards the sea with sandy beaches and cliffs, cultivated fields and pastures. You will find there wild horses and Maremmana cows scuttling around among the wide fields, while deer’s and wild boars running within the fine-looking forests of the Uccelina Mountains. Interesting archaeological sites in the Grosseto province along with the monuments which are a must visit are the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, with rich collection of artworks; the Church of San Francesco; and the Maremma Museum of Archaeology and Art that conserves locally important paintings and archaeological finds. For those who are interested in seaside vacation of cliffs, coves and scuba diving there are stunning beaches of Giannella and Feniglia. Porto Santo Stefano is a typical port community buzzing with activity, a nice seafront, and a majestic Spanish Fortress. Porto Ercole also makes for an arresting view, with its colored houses scattered around the bay and its mighty walls, all dominated by the Fortresses that towers around them. Long-established villages are still plentiful in the area. The sea is unpolluted and the long beaches of white sand run along the periphery of the pine forest. A visitor can easily find whatever they are in the mood for be it windsurfing, sailing, and other seaside fun things to do. This town is a hub of music and activity, far from the lively and popular destinations. There are many fascinating spots around Castiglione Della Pescaia that is worthy of a visit. Within the area, it is possible to walk, bike or ride along smooth roads. Depending on the kind of activity that you are up for .Most of the area is now under agricultural activity. Agriculture is now the main activity along with tourism. For adventure fun lovers …the coast offers scuba diving, sailing, biking, and horseback riding.
