Info about Kingston

453 km2
9 m

Kingston, the largest city and the capital of Jamaica, is located on the south-eastern coast of the island. It is the seventh largest natural harbour in the world and has a bustling port, exporting sugar, rum and bananas. It has a population of 7,50,000 inhabitants.
Kingston, an ancient city founded in 1692 by the British, flourished as a port for slave-traders in the eighteenth century. However, hardly any visible traces of its colourful history are left in the city, primarily due to a series of natural disasters during the seventeenth century.
The city is characterised by a tropical climate. It stays warm and sunny almost all through the year, with the average temperature staying around 25°C. It rains the most during the months of May–June and September October.

Overall Guide : Kingston is the cultural, industrial and financial centre of Jamaica. It architecture depicts an amazing confluence of history and modernity. Also, various festivals and carnivals are held all year round. Rockfort, a fortress built in the seventeenth century, the Headquarters... more House and the Church of Saint Thomas are the few historical structures still left in the city. Blue Mountains, situated at the northern edge of the city, are an idyllic retreat for those seeking some peace and tranquillity. Hellshire Beach, Gunboat Beach and Fort Clarence are the popular beaches here. Fort Clarence hosts legendary reggae concerts. The National Gallery of Art, the White Marl Arawak Museum and the Hope Botanical Gardens are the other places of interest that definitely merit a visit. The major sporting centres here include Sabina Park for international cricket, Caymanas Golf Course, and Buccaneer Club as well as Windward Edge for scuba-diving.

Overall Guide : Steeped in history, lovely architecture, lively bustling . Avoid late at night though. Good for shopping - uptown (St Andrew) has some lovely shops with exquisite jewelry and fashionable clothing and shoes. And if you are coming home from overseas... more the foreign currency will help you get a bargain (if you compare the prices taking into consideration the exchange rate). Visit places like Ammars uptown. Oh, and don't forget to try Devon House ice cream. I use to visit every Saturday/Sunday night for sundaes - there was usually a very long queue (line) but was very orderly with no pushing or fussing.

Overall Guide : It's a decent enough place to live. Closer to the central areas of Kingston you go the more expensive it gets. Try not to get lost as you may find yourself in bad situations depending on the time of day/night.... more Lots of variety and things to do so you certainly will not be bored living or visiting here as long as you have the capital to back it up.

Overall Guide : i think the people of downtown Kingston especially, are very scary looking and pauperized. That should not be the case since Kingston is the capital city of Jamaica and those persons are more exposed to opportunities that rural area citizens might... more lack. Yet the irony is undeniable; people from rural Jamaica look and behave more civilized than those from 'downtown' Kingston. In regards to the rest of Kingston (uptown) i do not have anything negative to say.

Overall Guide : Really great city for nightlife, not many real activities though. Mostly nightclubs, bars and restaurants. Also, there are a few events that are family-oriented, but the city lends itself to a more "adult, singles-mingle" vibe. If you are looking more... more on the eco-activities side for fun, you will need to go to the outskirts of Kingston. You will always be able to have fun; you just need to plan to ensure that it happens!
Not to be missed New Kingston Shopping Centre , Strawberry Hills , Hope Gardens

Overall Guide : So much to see, do and eat. Attractions need to be upgraded though. Kingston is all about having a good time and their nightlife is awesome. Safety is a issue for locals and international visitors. Something needs to be done... more about that. The experience in Kingston overall though is excellent
Not to be missed Hiking to Blue Mountain , Experience the Nightlife , Street Food

Overall Guide : I haven't been able to travel much through Kingston but I'm getting used to it. I have been in this country for only 2 weeks and I haven't seen much. Let the time flies and I will be able to... more say more about it.

Overall Guide : My review on Kingston is a moment to remember that the streets are constantly busy, transportation ease to access, entertainment is right at your door step. You can get access to schooling very easily and the job market is wide
Not to be missed Norman Manley International Airport and Kingstons other Airports , Up Park Camp is a very wonderful place to be , Heroes Circle

Overall Guide : Good place to visit. On the coast is more fun, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and may be Negril (for the quieter folks). Still all or most of the history of the nation is at its capital - Kingston.
