Info about Port antonio

20 m

Port Antonio is in Portland parish in the north-eastern part of Jamaica. With a population of approximately 13,000 inhabitants, this seaside town is the capital of the parish and the third largest port in the country.
The region enjoys a hot and humid climate. The temperature aggregates at 30°C throughout the year. While there is rainfall throughout the year, the maximum rainfall is from September to November.
Until the end of the nineteenth century, Port Antonio was a small coastal town. The plantation of bananas and its shipping brought about prosperity to the region.
It started attracting rich Americans for the fresh sea air and it slowly developed into a resort town. Later, it became popular with Hollywood stars and the jetsetters from America.

Overall Guide : The Blue Lagoon is one of the most beautiful sites in Port Antonio; it is deep blue in colour largely due to its depth (almost 200 feet). The Caves of Nonsuch found along a plantation called Seven Hills of Athenry... more are home to a variety of sea creatures like sponges and clams. The Crystal Springs Resort has a botanical garden, a bird sanctuary and other recreational facilities. Several of the grand buildings from the colonial times have remained; the Christ Church, courthouse and the railway station are some of them. Boston Beach is the most popular beach in town as it is accessible for swimming, surfing and other water sports. A cruise on a bamboo raft along the Rio Grande is a different way to take in the surrounding scenery. Just off the coast of Port Antonio, the Navy Island is an ideal one day excursion; a range of water sports facilities are available here.
