Cuenca can be referred to as a city located in an autonomous community called ‘Castilla-La-Mancha’ in Spain’s central area. It’s, in fact capital of Cuenca province, whose area is around 17061 sq. Km. From this data, one can conclude that Cuenca is as big as nations like Montenegro or Slovenia.

The name ‘Cuenca’ has been derived from the Latin word ‘conca’; which means ‘river basin’. This actually refers to beauty of rivers Huecar and Jucar. It might also get derived from now-destroyed Arab castle, i.e. Kunka. The other substitute names that have been suggested include ‘Concava’ or ‘Sucro’, and ‘Anitorgis’. Cuenca has been nicknamed ‘Eagle’s Nest’ due to its wobbly position on a gorge’s edge.

This city has conventional Mediterranean climate. Summers are hotter than the other cities. Winters are, by all means, quite cool. The height of the elevation, i.e. 956 meters above sea-level make nights colder. Autumn and spring seasons consist of a short duration.
