The Isle of Arran is located off the west coast of Scotland. This island of approximately 5,000 inhabitants is heavily dependent on tourism; despite its small size, it has a good infrastructure to cater to the large number of visitors. Farming and forestry also play an important role in the economy of the island.
The isle of Arran enjoys a mild temperate climate. Summer is the best time to visit; the average temperature is a few degrees warmer than the national average. The average temperature during winter is 9°C.
The island is often referred to as ‘Scotland in Miniature’. This is because its topography is very similar to the mainland. The northern part, i.e. the Highlands is rocky, while the south, i.e. the Lowlands is green and lush and also where most of the population is concentrated.

Overall Guide : Most of the larger villages on the island are found along the coast. Brodick, the main village, is known for its medieval castle, the Brodick Castle. The castle has on display a large collection of antiques, paintings and other collectors’ ... Leggi tutto pieces; it also has a garden with plants from different regions of the world. The nearby Isle of Arran Heritage Museum has portrayed life on the island for many centuries. Goat Fell, the highest point on the island, can be accessed by a winding path through the castle gardens. The long uphill walk is well worth it for the view. Holy Isle is a short ferry ride from Brodick. It carries the Buddhist influence, and many sacred caves and examples of Buddhist art can be found here. The picturesque village of Lochranza with its medieval castle; the Standing Stones, from the Stone Age, near the village of Tormore; the beautiful Whitning Bay; and the beaches of Kildonan and Pirnmill, are the other points of interest.

Overall Guide : Lovely part of the world, make sure you get to see the stoneman at Lochranza. It's just a short walk and well worth it. Brill view from his front garden too!

Overall Guide : Unbelievably good high quality cafe and all sorts it can be a bit rubbish with the weather: but who cares Arran is the best island in Scotland!
