Situated in Texas, USA, the city of Amarillo is located in the Texas Panhandle and covers an area of 234 sq km. The city, with a population of 180,000, lies at the meeting point of the desert and the plains.
Amarillo has a semi-arid temperate climate. Summers are hot and moderately humid with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 33°C. Winters are accompanied by blizzards with temperatures ranging from –6°C to 9°C.
First settled in 1887 and originally named as Oneida, the city has the world’s largest natural gas development. Discovery of natural gas and petroleum has given rise to many industries in Amarillo.
Also known as the ‘Yellow Rose of Texas’, Amarillo offers all the facilities of a big city while maintaining a small town atmosphere. The famous attractions of the city are the Cadillac Ranch and the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Natural attractions like the Palo Duro Canyon attract many visitors.
