Billings is situated in the county seat of Yellowstone County and is the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area. It is also named as the ‘Magic City’, because of its fast growth and development from a railroad town in 1882 to its present day status.
Billings is named after Frederick H. Billings, President of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
In the summer, the temperature can rise to over 100 °F (38 °C) while the winter can bring temperatures below zero. Autumn in Billings is usually mild.
