Fairmont is located in the northern part of the state of West Virginia in the USA. This town with a population of approximately 19,000 inhabitants is the county seat of Marion County and has been nicknamed ‘the friendly city’.
During summer, the maximum average temperature is 27°C; July and August are the hottest as well as the rainiest months. During winter, the temperature occasionally drops as low as –6°C with heavy snowfall in December and January.
Until 1843, Middleton and Palatine were two towns on the opposite banks of the river. The two settlements were unified and renamed Fairmont owing to its location on a scenic mountainous terrain.
Located at the intersection of the Tygart Valley River and West Fork River, Fairmont falls along West Virginia’s High Tech Corridor. It provides law enforcement support on a national level and also houses a NASA verification facility.

Overall Guide : Fairmont has a lot of recreation areas. The people here play Billiards, do hiking and climbing, play golf and enjoy going to the state parks. The popular state parks here are Prickett’s Fort State Park, Valley Falls State Park and... more Watters Smith Memorial State Park. There are a lot of historic treasures here, quite a lot of them are preserved in the museums here, some of the museums being Fairmont State College Museum, Marion County Historical Society Museum and West Augusta Historical Society and museum. Towards the North east around 18 miles away is the place called Morgantown, Elkins is around 39 miles towards the south and Davis is 43 miles towards the Southeast. There is a very special art show that takes place in this city in the month of October every year, it is called Mountain State Juried Art Exhibition.
