Hartford is located in Hartford County on the Connecticut River, in the north of the centre of the state of Connecticut. It is the capital city of the state of Connecticut, USA.
The city shares its borders with the town of West Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield, East Hartford, Bloomfield, South Windsor and Windsor. Hartford has a humid continental climate. The winters are cold with an annual average low of –8°C. Summers are is hot and humid with an annual average high temperature of 23°C.
Hartford has an approximate population of 124,400. Often referred to as the ‘insurance capital of the world’, insurance is one of the main industries of the region. The city was founded by the Dutch traders in the early 1600’s and was established by Reverend Thomas Hooker in 1636.

Overall Guide : The foremost attraction of Hartford is the Wadswoth Athenaeum Museum of Art. Established in 1842, it is the first public museum of USA. The museum houses an excellent collection of American paintings from the nineteenth century. Hartford is home to... more the oldest public park, the Bushnell Park. Constituting forty acres of land, it includes antique carousel, children’s playground, sculptures and the Civil War Arch. The famous author Mark Twain was once a resident of Hartford. His house, the Mark Twain House, is now a popular tourist attraction of Hartford. It also has a Museum, recently built, which provides an interesting insight into the life of the author. The house of the author ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’, Harriet Beecher Stowe, is another must see attraction in Hartford. The Hartford International Jazz Festival held every October, is a weekend extravaganza full of jazz music and good food. October is also the month of the Hartford Marathonb.
