Situated in Duval County in Florida, USA, the port town of Jacksonville is located along the St John’s River. It is the largest city in Florida, with a land area of 2,264.5 sq km. 
The city has a humid, subtropical climate characterized with mild winters and hot summers. Temperatures in summer can reach as high as 30°C and can be accompanied with thunderstorms. During winter, temperatures fall below freezing point in the night.
Jacksonville is named after Florida’s first governor and former US President, Andrew Jackson. Devastated by the Civil War, the city became a popular resort town after its reconstruction.
With a population of over 780,000, Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida. Jacksonville’s location on the St John’s River and the Atlantic Ocean has helped it grow into an important port.
