Graz is situated in the South of Austria and is the capital of the Steiermark (Styria) Province. It lays on the Mur River and is bordered by the Alps on three sides. Graz is the second biggest city in Austria after Vienna.
In Graz you can find many industries and manufactured products as steel, railroad equipments, leather goods and is a considerable centre of trade in wine cereals and fruit.
The old part of the city is connected with the new town by seven bridges. The old part of the city is build around the Schlossberg Park, which was a strongly fortified hill until 1809.
The city’s name has its origin from the Slavic world “gradec” which means “small fort” and is referred to the fortress that once stood on top of the Schlossberg.

The greatest architects and artists of these region seem to have expressed themselves here and there is a typical building representing each age. Graz is also very known for its Opera House and for its Universities very important in Technical, Music and Dramatic Art.
