Cotonou, in south-eastern Benin, is the economic capital of the country. Situated on the Gulf of Guinea, it is referred to as the Gateway to Benin.
Cotonou enjoys a tropical climate. The coastal region is generally hot and humid, and the best time to visit is July to September. The average monthly temperature ranges from 20-34 C.
Traditionally a port town, Cotonou is today the crossroad of West African commerce. As the biggest and busiest port in the region, it facilitates a majority of the city trade.
Home to a population of around 1.2 million people, the four largest ethnic groups here include the Fon, the Adja, the Bariba and the Yoruba. Most people are engaged in the manufacturing industries and at the port.

Overall Guide : Quite interesting. Never miss it. And try also to visit Ganvier. Fidjrosse's beach is high pole of attraction during weekend and holidays. Don't miss it either. You must also visit the place of RED STAR which is very famous during... more colonial time and up to nowadays. You'll enjoy a very typical transportation called ZEMIDJAN or ZEM. Very fantastic and lovely people offering great services. Very cooperative.
