Pietrasanta, Italy is a primitive and creative town in northern Tuscany sometimes called the City of the Sculptures. This city has been a marble and art town known for its marvelous marble sculptures since before the time of Michelangelo who came here to find the grayest conceivable marble. One of the most valuable gifts from Pietrasanta to the world are the marble artisans who take the clay or plaster cast figures of the artists and convert them in attractive marble statues. They still use their old guide instruments to change the extents of the small originals to the large statues. They do have some modern machinery and computer help now but most of the work is still done by hand by specialized artisans. The statuary was beautiful and it was also fun to see works by Gina Lollobrigida and the figures of Superman and Batman. This village is a perfect holiday destination for people who want to run away from the hectic life and explore the calm life while visiting art galleries, wine shops, and excellent cuisines. There are various exhibits near the central ‘piazza’ near the main square and campanile. One can sit at the Cafe Michelangelo and gaze out at all the goings on. Pietrasanta isn't a hill town and its historic center is a pleasant place for strolling. It's a vital center for working marble; The Bozzetti Museum is a very important museum of sculpture and sketches. On first Sunday of every month there is an antiques market day and on second Sunday of the month there is a crafts market and on Thursdays they have a common market day where we shopped for handicrafts and art lovers have many options for them like marble sculptures, artworks. San Biagio day is also a worth to mention here which is celebrated with a fair in the beginning of February. The town has Roman origins and part of the Roman walls still exist. Speaking about Pietrasanta highlights and Attractions we walked through the streets and reached the main square Piazza del Duomo, you can hang out and relax here in cozy cafes, visit art exhibits, the town's prime buildings, people gather here to spend their time and certainly the Church of S.Martino is centre of attraction of this square. Rocca di Sala and Guinigi Palace sits on a hill behind the city center. You get to see the only survivor Rocchetta Arrighina, Porta a Pisa of once existed three traditional town gates which was built in fourteenth century. Next we visited Pietrasanta Cathedral a must visit church roofed with white marble dated 14th century. Duomo di Pietrasanta, I visited the Duomo at Pisa on same trip and preferred Duomo in Pietrasanta. The piazza where the duomo is situated is a very lively and Italian, non-tourist feel area. The city’s structure is based on very narrow lanes with Roman grid structures where creativity is easily visible to tourists. There are numerous art galleries in this city Galleria La Subbia, Galleria Tega to name a few important ones, there is also a season for artists gallery exhibition which starts in June and lasts till September every year. This seaside village is a place of peace for historic artists as well as a place of inspiration for modern artists.
