The port city of Kisumu is in western Kenya. The third largest city in the country, it is home to an estimated 322,724 people.
An equatorial town, Kisumu is hot all year round with temperatures around 83F.
The city experiences two wet seasons: April-June and October-November.
In the olden days, the economy depended on the main port. Today Kisumu is the commercial center of a prosperous farm region; it also has a successful oil export industry.

Kisumu has a multi-ethnic population, with a majority of the inhabitants coming from the Luo tribe.

Overall Guide : The town is Ok. The People are welcoming and the sunset is perfect. I wish the City council and the People responsible could do more in this City. Upgrade the pavements, the old buildings and also plant more trees. My... more greatest worry is lake Victoria. Looks very dirty, it is also infested by These irritating green plants `water hyacinth`. Is there a way of atleast reducing them? they have contributed to the extinction of so many water species like fish in the lake. It is such a shame that a fresh water lake could look like this!!! ..if there was a way of making the Waters Crystal clear and implementing strict rules which would guard against water polution, The City would be perfect. Again, i am disappointed about the People in this City. The City is full of matatu conductors and boda boda Operators... I mean there are a lot of profiting Business ideas than These minor ones which just contribute to traffic congetion in the City. The land around lake Victoria is fertile. Irrigation around this area could Change people´s life among other things. It´s high time that People stopped depending on the government and apply common sense and the Little knowledge they attained from high School. How about the traffic lights? why doesn´t Kisumu City have These? Is it that expensive to have them? I wish i could Change the People in this City and the town at large...But Change doesn´t occur if the others are not in line with it. When will People become real Long-term thinkers yawa. Greetings

Overall Guide : KISUMU is a very well located city with a high potential for growth. But I am worried the city planning does not favor the growth. If properly planned it can be a very beautiful place to be. Kisumu other than Mombasa... more should be a holyday destination for local and tourist. Kisumu despite being 3rd largest city in Kenya, it is perhaps the slowest in growth. Money circulation is too low, subjecting life to be very expensive to lower and middle class. Investment oportunities are also low, to add salt on pepper frequent violence eruptions is harting the allready fragile investment programmes. A lot need to be done to make Kisumu attractive. Edgar.
Not to be missed impala park , Kisumu Musiam , yatch club

Overall Guide : Its a city in a third world country but it offers so much and is so much safer than Nairobi etc. The people are lovely and theres plenty to see. It was named the UN's first 'Millenium City' in the world... more due to its potential, security and investment is now pooring in. See this link below for loads of info on the topic. Stay in Kisumu in a Guest house, just out side from the town centre for noise sake and not too near the lake to stay away from the mosquitos and your'll be fine. Overall Guide : Kisumu city is generally safe since one can comfortably walk at mid-night from town to house without problem. Economically, its very slow and never aggressive in her business prospects, people are reluctant to work, or doing very shady work. Living cost... more is fairly pocket friendly, since with 30/= itashiba "nyoyo na uji". Kisumo is good.
Not to be missed Hippo-point at Dunga beach , Kit Mikai

Overall Guide : Kisumu is the most hospitable and secure of Kenya's major towns. The residents of Kisumo are very welcoming, especially to guests seeking guidance on a number of activities within the city. A sleeping giant has awoken and is now shaking... more the whole Eastern Africa region. Other than the avoidable top class hotels, remember to visit the famous Tom Mboya Labour College and Dunga Beach. The Kisumu International Airport joins you to the rest of the world.
