Overview

Melaka, formerly known as Malacca, is the one of the smallest states of Malaysia.
Located in the region of the Malay Peninsula, it houses a population of about 700,000 inhabitants. The city is has developed into a commercial and economic centre, yet it has retained its pleasant charm.
Melaka enjoys a tropical climate. The temperature is warm and humid throughout the year, although it gets cooler in the evenings. The annual precipitation is spread across the year with irregular showers.
Despite being a small state, Melaka has grown rapidly in the past few years with manufacturing and tourism as the main economic sectors.

The Melaka Butterfly and Reptile Sanctuary is an interesting place where visitors will find various beautiful butterflies in the aviary section. Different species of reptiles like snakes and scorpions as well as various insects can also be seen in this sanctuary.

Overall Guide : Public transportation is quite difficult to find, most of ordinary taxis are not using meters and offer a certain amount for their services that are standard (but sometimes relatively expensive).
