Tunisian cuisine finds its roots in the Maghreb tradition. Meals are characterized by stews (mainly couscous and tajine), with hot chilli sauce, olives and meat. The meat is served either with rice or fresh baked bread.
Some popular local dishes include Shorba Frik, or lamb soup; Coucha, lamb cooked in pepper and turmeric; and Berber Lamb, lamb with potatoes and carrots. Meals are accompanied by cups of steaming tea. When here, also try out the Tunisian fig brandy, Boukha.
