Sandton is a very young municipality, only formed on the 1 July 1969. It lies on the northern edge of Johannesburg and got its name from a combination of the two suburbs Sandown and Bryanston.
Sandton is considered the retail and financial powerhouse of Southern Africa and is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and numerous banking institutions.
