Situated on the River Cedar, the city of Cedar Rapids is a beautiful city with lakes, rivers and hills. It has a continental climate with an average winter temperature of around –7°C and an average summer temperature of about 24°C. Summers are a better time to visit the region.
The aboriginals of this city were the Fox and Sac tribes who were basically hunters. Osgood Shepherd was the first permanent European settler in Cedar Rapids. The city was initially named as Rapids City, derived from the rapids on River Cedar; later, in 1848, it was changed to Cedar Rapids.
With a population of approximately 120,700 residents, Cedar Rapids is the second largest city in Iowa. The packaging industry along with telecommunications forms the backbone of Cedar Rapids’s economy which thrives mainly on the enterprise of private individuals.

Overall Guide : There is plenty for history lovers in Cedar Rapids. The African American Historical Museum and Cultural Centre of Iowa houses a collection from the historical past of the Africans and Americans in Iowa. Similarly, the National Czech and Slovak Museum... more and Library is a great place to visit, showcasing Czech heritage. The Art Museum in the city boasts of the largest collection of Grant Wood paintings in the world.   The Tree of Five Seasons, a stainless steel sculpture, is also a major tourist attraction, constructed in the 1990s to commemorate the prevalent idea of ‘five seasons’ in the city. Another must-see attraction is the Mother Mosque of America, which is one of the oldest mosques in America and also a place of religious significance. The Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival is celebrated annually and includes all kind of entertainment like concerts, parades, competitions and so forth and is a perfect time to enjoy a Cedar Rapids holiday.
