Durango is the mining city of La Plata County in Colorado, United States. It is also the county seat of La Plata with a population of around 16,000 inhabitants. This town is the base for excursions to the famous San Juan Mountains and also for the historic narrow gauge railroad connecting Durango to Silverton.
Blessed with an ideal, mild climate in all the four seasons, Durango has moderate winters and warm, sunny summers. Spring brings in the rains and lush vegetation while fall is cool and dry creating favourable conditions for outdoor activities.
Founded in 1880, Durango was recognised as a Mexican state in 1825 and its rail system paved the ways for its development. Once limited to agriculture and mining, the economy of Durango now also includes textiles, wood, mining and electronics.

Overall Guide : Durango is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts as it offers various options to the visitors like rafting, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, golfing and more. The Mesa Verde National Park is a major attraction and a World Heritage Site which features ... Leggi tutto several ruins of settlements of the ancient Pueblo tribe. The place also consists of fabulous cliff dwellings, hiking trails and camping grounds. The Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum which displays fine artwork is also located here. Entertainment for all ages is the unusual canopy tour ride called the Soaring Tree Top Adventures. Visitors get to climb harnesses and ride atop cable cars through lush forests. The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is also a delightful place where almost 300 types of chocolate candies are manufactured. The Snowdown Festival is an annual event which consists of brilliant fireworks and musical parades.
