Durham, also known as ‘Bull City’ and ‘City of Medicine’, is a bustling metropolis in North Carolina, United States. A population of around 250,000 inhabitants makes it the fourth largest city in the state. Located between the Great Smoky Mountains and the beautiful beaches, it receives around five million visitors annually.
The region experiences four distinct seasons which come with moderate temperatures. Summers and winters are mild, occasionally showing their extreme side; considerable rainfall is also experienced here. July is the hottest month with January being the coldest.
Founded in 1853, Durham was a major railroad depot which grew rapidly after the Civil War owing to tobacco production. Its multi-faceted economy includes pharmaceuticals, computers, telecommunications and electronics.

Overall Guide : Great place to live if you are single, a couple without children, a couple with children if you are financially able to enroll children in private schools, and, especially, a senior. Durham's public schools are the worst I have ever ... Leggi tutto seen, with academic test scores barely on the charts and overall ratings in the 1 and 2 range where 1 is worst and 10 is best. Teachers are paid such low salaries, though, it is no wonder that the schools are so bad. Health care could not be better than here in Durham - or, the Triangle, and career opportunities abound in the world of technology. Durham housing is very, very affordable and an identical house in Chapel Hill would cost about $100,000 more (all but 3 schools in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro school system consistently rate 8 - 10). Entertainment for all ages is abundant and most neighborhoods are very family-oriented. Though my husband and I are seniors who moved to Durham just 3 years ago, it very quickly became our new home!

A historic landmark of the city is the Carolina Theatre of Durham which dates back to 1926. It consists of ... Leggi tutto the Fletcher Hall which is the main stage, the Kirby Lobby and the Connie Moses Ballroom. Documentaries, plays and various film festivals keep the place alive. The Durham Central Park is a famous Municipal Park in the city which houses various art pieces and collectibles, a beautiful butterfly garden and lush lawns. Also worth visiting is the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science, featuring an array of exhibits on natural science. Featuring six weeks of summer festivities including modern dance performances by various artists is the American Dance Festival where visitors could also try learning different techniques of dance.
