Fort Mill town is in York County in South Carolina. It is a suburb of Rock Hill in South Carolina and Charlotte city in North Carolina. Established in 1873, Fort Mill was named after a colonial era fort built by the British and a grist mill, near the Steele Creek.
The Catawba Indians made their homes in this town for several years. By 1750s and 60s, Scotch-Irish settlers began to arrive here and soon a small settlement began to develop.
As per the 2000 census, the population of the town was 7,587 people. By 2009, the population reached to 9,394 people.
