Mishawaka is located in St Joseph County in the state of Indiana, USA. It is part of the Michiana region (northern Indiana and south-western Michigan). This city received its name in after Princess Mishawaka, daughter of Shawnee (Indian tribe) Chief Elkhart.
Economic progress of this region began with the discovery of bog iron deposits, which attracted several European immigrants to mine these deposits. Initially called St Joseph Iron Works, Mishawaka was formed from this town and three others.
The annual average temperature is around 9°C. It is best to avoid travel between the months of November and February, when snowfall is heavy.
With a population of around 46,500, most locals are engaged in commerce and industry. This region has an eclectic mix of people including Europeans and African-Americans.
