South Bend is located in St Joseph County in the state of Indiana, USA. It is part of the South Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also part of the Michiana region (northern Indiana and south-western Michigan). South Bend became a town in 1835 and was incorporated as a city in 1865.
Development began with steam locomotive manufacturing. Companies in this city include Robert Bosch GmbH, and Singer Sewing Machine Company. Much of South Bend’s economic progress comes from its industries.

Tour a chocolate factory. Take a carriage ride. Picnic in a park. Perfect place for shopping, where you can shop till you drop. There are many places of worship, South Bend/Mishawaka is a great place to come to feel rejuvenated and to take a break from a chaotic lifestyle. It's easy to stay active. The walking, running, and bike trails that connect downtown with South Bend, the Notre Dame campus are extremely popular. The latest path follows the river from northern edge of downtown to northwestern city neighborhoods. All this with the affordable cost that living downtown offers. You can find reasonable rates for an apartment or condo in one of several historic buildings or at more contemporary residences.
