Palm Springs is a desert city located nearly 180 km east of Los Angeles, the capital city of California. It is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides, the most prominent being the 10,800 ft tall San Jacinto Mountain to the west.
The Palm Springs International Airport is located in the heart of Palm Springs. The city is within easy reach of other resorts like Desert Hot Springs, Palm Desert, La Quina, Indio and Rancho Mirage which make up the Coachella Valley of which the city is a part.
The weather in Palm Springs is usually dry, with most of the days being warm and sunny. Summer temperatures can rise to 40°C, so this season isn’t usually recommended as a good time to visit. Winter temperatures in the desert can drop below 10°C.
The population of this desert resort is approximately 43,000 people.

Overall Guide : Palm Springs has been home to some of Hollywood’s most renowned celebrities. It is also the home of many festivals like the world famous International Film Festival, which is held at the beginning of January. The International Festival of Short... more Films, held in August, is the second largest in the world. Imprints of celebrities can be found at the Starwalk, a sidewalk similar to the one at Hollywood. You can also rub shoulders with the elite by hanging out at the various desert casinos. A popular tourist attraction is the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which is the world’s largest rotating tramcar system. The journey from the Chino Canyon to the east edge of the Long Valley offers a spectacular view of the mountains. Take a break from the glamour and visit the Air Museum (hosting one of the world’s largest collections of fighter jets and war craft dating back to World War II) and the Art Museum (with its unique travelling art exhibitions).
