Park Ridge is a Chicago suburb which around 37,775 residents, out of this, 14,219 were household people and 10,465 were families residing in the city. It is situated 15 miles to the northwest of downtown Chicago.
Originally, Park Ridge was called as Pennyville to honor George Penny, a businessman who owned the local brickyard along with Robert Meacham. But, later on it was named as Brickton.
Park Ridge is considered as the highest ridge in Cook County. However, this is not true as it does not lie on a ridge. The soil is quite abundant with clay deposits and this made it a brick making center for Chicago.
Chicago is situated to both south and east of Park Ridge and Niles is to its north. Further, the Des Plaines River divides Park Ridge from the neighboring cities of Des Plaines which is to the west of Park Ridge.
As per the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 square miles of which, 7.0 square miles is land and 0.04 square miles is water.
